You know, this guy:
Notable Roles:
Winston Zeddmore - "Ghost Busters"
Sergeant Albrecht - "The Crow"
Sergeant O'Malley - "Airheads"
Principal Claude Rolle - "The Substitute"
Why He's Awesome:
He was able to overcome an iconic role that would have ended the career of a lesser actor. Murray, Ramis, and Aykroyd were all stars going into "Ghost Busters." Hudson was just the other guy, and he probably could have lived off that for the rest of his life. He was able to parlay his essential good guy nature into a long career.
I mainly want to talk about him in the '90s. He just showed up in ridiculous movie after ridiculous movie and he was memorable every time. The list is long, but the ones I hit above are the best. He could spend the rest of his life playing the Reginald VelJohnson character from "Die Hard." You know what I mean, the one cop who knows what's going on; therefore, he's a threat to the Lieutenant in charge.
My favorite Hudson role, though, was Principal Rolle. He even made my list of best principals. The role requires everyone to love Ernie Hudson. He's tough on Tom Berenger, but we think it's because he's trying to protect his students. Nope. turns out, Principal Rolle is using his school to run a drug ring. I never saw it coming, and I'm telling you, it's because of Ernie Hudson.
You'd Be Surprised to Learn:
He's a Reserve Deputy Sheriff in San Bernardino County.
